NY Sculptor located on Long Island, N.Y. Fine art in stone and bronze
Edith Rae Brown is a sculptor whose work represents her love of figurative sculpture and her desire to explore new paths with form and space. Edith shares her time with medalic art and has been commissioned to create medals to honor distinguished individuals. These medals are either one sided or two. "One Man's Tranquility" in the collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and another in the Newark Museum of Medallic Art collection. These pieces are bar reliefs and are cast in bronze.
The other materials used by the artist to communicate a message in sculpture are stone, clay and wood. Brown is also known to expand her resources to whatever is found at hand. Some of her stone pieces will be cast in bronze, with patination, in small limited editions. Most all of her stone and wood carvings are unique. Brown's work has been shown in The United States and abroad. She has been an invited artist in residence in the the south of France working in a stone quarry while producing three pieces which are permanently installed in the nearby village. The largest of the three being over 6' high carved from local Limestone. Ms. Brown has been one of a few to be invited to membership of the historical and prestigious Salon d'Automne, Paris, France for the last 11 years. Each year a new creation is exhibited in the Salon. The permanent home of the Salon is the Grand Palais, Paris. Among her exhibitions in France include the Unesco, L'Assemble Nationale, Ittérnaire, Parsons School of Design and Gallerie Arte Viva which has represented her work for the past 9 years. Her work has traveled to The National Museum, Budapest, Hungary and to Warsaw, Poland. In the states her medallic art is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian and the Newark Museum as well as many private collections. She continues to exhibit her work each year in group shows while every few years a solo exhibition takes place at The National Arts Club, New York. She has been been represented in Who's Who in American Art since 1989 and is an active member of many art organizations as well as board member. Edith Rae Brown was the featured artist in Art News, September 2001. Her work has been highlighted on public television channel 21, hosted by Laura Savini. In the last 6 months, Ms Brown has won several awards including most recently the Tooker Foundry Award at the National Arts Club108th Annual Exhibiting Artist Members' Exhibition, New York, for her bronze sculpture "April."
In recent years Edith has returned to the easel and now splits her time between sculpting and painting. Her art career stated with painting alongside her Father who was an accomplished artist. He continued to paint and study until the very late years of his life, passing on at the age of 93 in 2008.
As with sculpture Edith's paintings are created in different materials all of which she enjoys to express the communication she wishes to convey.
